Bishop Gregory A. Wilson Sr
Pastor & Presiding Bishop
Bishop Wilson served our nation’s military as Sergeant in the United States Air Force and finished his service as an electronics air navigation technician. He also served in the Air National Guard and received an honorable discharge for his military service.
As a civilian, Bishop Wilson worked as a technical writer and editor on Department of Defense documentation for the Air Force, Army, Navy, Coast Guard, NASA and three foreign governments. He has more than 40 years of experience in Information Technology and traveled the country for the military, private industry, and government. He worked in many levels of City Government as a network administrator and liaison for departments including Streets, Revenue, Police, Managing Director’s Office, and the Mayor’s Office. Bishop Wilson retired after 32 years of service to the City of Philadelphia, receiving numerous awards and accolades, including a Citation from City Council recognizing his ability to work across departmental and agency lines.
Bishop Wilson joined the Community Church of New Hope and Faith in 1972 and accepted salvation under the late Bishop James McNeal Jr. Later that year, he became the first walking Deacon of the church. After receiving confirmation, Deacon Wilson accepted his call to the ministry and preached his trial sermon on December 10, 1976.
On December 17, 1982, Minister Wilson was ordained as an Elder and installed as the presiding elder of the Church of New Hope and Faith, Inc. He has served as Superintendent of Sunday School, Assistant Director of the Ministers Board, Director of the Youth Council and throughout various other offices and auxiliaries. Bishop Wilson has been known for more than 35 years as the “Joshua” of the Church of New Hope and Faith, Inc.
On April 16, 1986, the original church edifice at 661 N. 39th St collapsed without warning. Bishop Wilson designed the new edifice and served as the construction manager through its 1988 dedication. He and his family also donated more than $85,000 toward the construction of the new edifice.
After faithfully serving his pastor for 47 years, Elder Wilson accepted succession following Bishop McNeal’s passing in September 2019. Elder Wilson was consecrated to the Bishopric on December 7, 2019 and installed as the Presiding Bishop of the Churches of New Hope and Faith, Inc. In 2020, Bishop Wilson was appointed as the Northeast Coordinator and Vice-Chairman of the NCFC.
Bishop Gregory A. Wilson Sr. has been married to Evangelist Josephine Wilson since 1971. They celebrated 53 years of marriage this year. From this union they have two children, Evangelist Jennifer D. Harris {Darren S. Harris (deceased)} and Elder Gregory A. Wilson II (Minister Lynná F. Wilson), and five granddaughters: Trinity, Destiny, Alexa, A’Miyah and Alyse.
